About Us
The Family Oriented Four Wheel Drive Club
Formed in 1969 by a group of four wheel drive enthusiasts we are primarily a family oriented club catering for 4WD trips to areas not easily reached other than by 4WD vehicles. We try to cater for different levels of driving skill from the beginner, to more challenging tracks for the more experienced, and even up to competition level.
The club runs day and weekend trips, night trials, charity runs, clean up days in conjunction with the regional council, and more, and we follow the DOC 'Care' philosophy.
We run at least one or two club trips per month, sometimes more. These vary from scenic touring day trips, more extreme day trips, camp-out weekends and extended holiday trips further field. We have designated trip leaders who are responsible for running each trip and ensuring that it is conducted in a safe manner. We are equipped with emergency safety kits for the unlikely event of an accident, including medical supplies, thermal blankets, emergency locator beacons and grid maps.
Along with a a monthly magazine, the club website is used to keep members up to date on future trips, important events, past trip reports, and the 'President's View' blog. Members are encouraged to write about their trip experience or any other 4WD trips or events they may have participated in.
A monthly club meeting is run for all members and any visitors who may wish to attend on the third Monday of each month. Doors open at 7:15pm and meeting at 7:30pm. Address is The Auckland Vintage Car Clubrooms, 39 Fairfax Ave Penrose. Stories of past runs are told, video of previous months trips are shared and information on forth coming trips provided. If you are thinking of becoming a member and would like to find out more, attending one of our club meetings is the best way to learn more, and introduce yourself to the committee members.
